Not so easy…

I thought I would be done by now, the paintings completed. In fact, I originally thought that I would be done by June. Now, I’m hoping to get them finished by the end of the year. It seems each time that I work on them I go deeper, and I’m enjoying that process. I don’t want to cut the paintings short because of a self-imposed deadline, or something arbitrary like an art competition.

(1628), is a perfect example of the texture that the metal imparts. This mini-series was an enjoyable tangent from the main body of work I am currently working on.

Newsletter #4

For this newsletter I wanted to write about one of my current influences Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano (1503-1572), also known as Bronzino. I've known about him for a while, but I was never particularly inspired by his paintings. I thought his work was too unnatural and severe. However, over the last couple of years I’ve slowly become a convert to his mannered, stylish works.

Writing these monthly newsletters is an interesting exercise. I try to synthesise the thoughts I have over this period with clarity, which is proving difficult as I find that over several weeks my attitude towards painting and my emotional state changes considerably!
